WHY FULL INTENTIONS

The game is the tool.
The person is the point.

Competitive training. Intentional development. Beyond the game.

At Full Intentions Athletics, we're developing athletes who can compete, adapt, think, and perform. But we also believe the impact of sport should extend beyond the scoreboard.

We use basketball, movement, and intentional coaching to challenge athletes physically, mentally, and socially.

Built to compete.Developed for more.

01 — WHY FULL INTENTIONS?

Developing the player. Building the person.

We're not here to reinvent basketball. We're here to rethink what athletic development can look like.

Somewhere along the way, sports development became heavily focused on rankings, exposure, statistics, and results.

Those things can matter. Competition matters. Winning matters. Performance matters. But so does the person doing the competing.

We believe athletes deserve environments that challenge them to improve while recognizing everything they bring into the gym.

Their confidenceTheir experiencesTheir relationshipsTheir identitiesTheir challengesTheir potential

We don't believe in lowering expectations. We believe in creating better environments for athletes to meet them.

02 — WHY BASKETBALL?

More than a game.
A place to learn.

Basketball is fast. Competitive. Unpredictable.

It requires athletes to make decisions, communicate, adapt, and respond to challenges in real time.

ONE POSSESSIONYou're making the right read.
THE NEXTYou're turning the ball over.
ONE MOMENTYou're leading.
THE NEXTYou're learning how to follow.

Basketball creates opportunities to practice things that extend beyond the court:

  • 01Decision-making under pressure
  • 02Communication and teamwork
  • 03Confidence and self-awareness
  • 04Accountability and leadership
  • 05Emotional regulation and resilience
  • 06Adaptability and problem-solving

But these lessons don't happen automatically. They depend on how athletes are coached, challenged, supported, and encouraged to reflect.

That's where intention comes in.

We use the game as a classroom without forgetting that athletes are here to train, compete, and get better at basketball.

03 — THE SPORT SOCIAL WORK LENS

The whole athlete is the athlete.

Athletes don't leave the rest of their lives at the gym door.

Their environments, relationships, experiences, identities, and access to opportunities can influence how they show up in sport.

Our philosophy is informed by sport social work: the idea that how athletes play is connected to their well-being, their relationships, and the world around them.

That perspective shapes how we coach:

  • We consider the individual, not just their performance.
  • We recognize that development looks different for different athletes.
  • We create opportunities for connection, belonging, accountability, and growth.
  • We value healthy competition without using shame or humiliation as coaching tools.
  • Supporting athletes doesn't mean removing challenges. It means building environments where athletes can navigate them.

Sport social work informs our coaching philosophy. Our athletic programs are not therapy or counseling services.

04 — OUR COMPETITIVE STANDARD

High standards.
Human approach.

We expect athletes to

We're not interested in creating an environment where athletes never experience discomfort, failure, or frustration. Those are part of sport.

But there's a difference between challenging an athlete and tearing them down. We demand effort, teach accountability, and build competitive confidence without making performance the measure of someone's worth.

You can compete to win without being defined by winning.

05 — THE PHILOSOPHY

Plan the action.
Not the result.

You cannot control every outcome.

PREPAREPRACTICECOMMUNICATECOMPETEADJUSTRESPOND

We teach athletes to focus on the behaviors and decisions that support performance.

The goal isn't to care less about winning. It's to understand what actually puts you in a position to win.

Intentional actions. Meaningful repetitions. Consistent improvement.

06 — WHY WE STARTED

Built from experience.

Full Intentions Athletics was founded by Jordan Sanders: former NCAA Division I basketball player at UC Irvine and USC, licensed clinical social worker, mental performance coach, and personal trainer.

Her experiences in competitive athletics and clinical practice shaped a belief that physical development, mental well-being, and community shouldn't exist in separate spaces.

At the collegiate level, athletes often have an entire ecosystem of coaching, training, facilities, teammates, and support. But access to those resources isn't universal.

What would it look like to bring more of that intentional support into everyday athletic development?

The answer is something we're actively building.

07 — THE BIGGER PICTURE

Basketball is where we start. Not where we stop.

Basketball is foundational to Full Intentions Athletics, but our vision extends into athletic foundations, strength, movement, and community-centered development. We're building an organization where competitive training and whole-person development work together.

  • A place where athletes can be challenged.
  • Where effort matters.
  • Where community matters.
  • Where development doesn't end with the final whistle.
